Nine. What Have I Been Up To?

The past couple of weekends I didn’t travel anywhere, so there haven’t been any posts, but its time for an update. Last weekend I did take a trip with the student union to see Stonehenge and explore Salisbury, but it wouldn’t have been a decent length post. It was definitely on my bucket list and seeing it was very exciting, thus we got plenty of pictures. If you ever get the chance to visit the UK, I would definitely recommend taking a trip to Salisbury, the closest town to Stonehenge, and spend a couple hours there. While in town, we did get a tour of the 13th century cathedral. I will share some pictures of that below. Unfortunately, no food pictures to share because I packed some sandwiches for the trip since we were on a schedule.

A holiday did pass in the time since I have last shared with you all. Pancake Day. It’s not official on calendars, but it’s directly related to Lent. It’s a way to get rid of any dairy one may have in the household. However, pancakes are not what anyone in America may think it is. Pancakes here are flat, fold-able, and also known as crepes. We did celebrate by waking up early enough before class to make crepes for breakfast. And again after class, except these were actual crepes made by a French man. (Thanks Kevin!) Filled with Nutella, raspberries, and perfection. I doubt I’ll pay for crepes or “pancakes” ever again.

As far as Salsa Society goes, I attended two events last week, learning rueda and Cuban salsa. Rueda is a partner dance within a large group, spontaneous, and lots of fun. The Cuban salsa routine we learned was tricky once you put it all together to music. As a follower, dancing is still way more fun with a partner who leads. Later this week there will be a rueda flash mob at uni, which i have never seen nor been apart of. Movies are the only time I have witnessed one, so I’m excited for this. I will try and capture it.

This weekend we went to Bristol for a shopping day, because wearing the same clothes over and over is taking a toll on me. I miss having an entire closet and switching up my outfits. It’s still winter and every outfit is covered with a jacket, but i wear things to look good for me. My birthday weekend is approaching and I brought some green clothes with me, but due to my limited wardrobe, I wore them already and needed something new. Plus, my birthday outfits are always new clothes and I won’t break from that. The Cabot Circus, which is the shopping center in Bristol, is nothing short of incredible. It also proved to me how great Bath actually is for shopping, in that many of the stores that were in Bristol are in Bath too. However, Pull & Bear is my favorite from the day and I wish there was one at home. The train ride to Bristol was cheap (£5) and fast (15 mins), so I will definitely be back.

Saturday was the ideal girls day, and will be the first of many after proving to be perfect. We started the day with the real most important meal of the day, brunch, at a cafe we passed just about everyday. It turned out to be an overlooked treasure that we are taking advantage of on a almost weekly bass. Cafe Au Lait is close to home, has an instagrammable aesthetic, great food & coffee, and affordable. I had the BBQ pulled pork with poached eggs, toast, and a cappuccino. Next time I am getting pancakes. BUTTERMILK pancakes. As in real fluffy pancakes. If you couldn’t tell, I am very excited to get them and someone may need to talk me out of writing an entire blog on pancakes.

As far as school goes, the main purpose of my being here… assignment due dates are approaching and the real work is beginning. My favorite is the research assignment for my Advanced Consumer Research course. The choice of topic is completely our own which made it difficult, especially keeping the idea on consumer approach. I decided to write about why I am studying abroad, while basic sounding, dives pretty deep. I have been debating on posting the first part of the assignment because of what it leads to. I don’t usually ask anything of my readers, but what do you think? Should I keep it to myself or post it for the world to see?

  1. Great summary of the past few weekends.
Posting your research assignment… maybe portions of it…or a summary of it…or after its turned in. Just thinking plagiarism, copyright, etc.

    1. Hey Ash, How are you? I wouldn’t post as of yet, maybe until you have turned it in for the world to see. I think it will make a great read for others but like your mom so eloquently put it, you don’t know other’s intentions. Anyways, thanks for posting and keeping us all abreast. Photos are always on point!!!
